- 1960's Vintage
Details from original owner:
- Shobudani is the quarry - one of the two original Honyama mines in Kyoto Japan.
- Mizu Asagi is the color - Grey/Blue/Green-ish
- Awasedo means 'finishing stone'.
This is a really nice satiny type of Shobu, the feedback is softer, not crisp - it's subtle but not hidden. Water only laps are easy to do. There is a bit of grain in the sensation but its more creamy the the norm. The edges from this stone came up faster than the norm and the sharpness and smoothness were on-point. It's a very hard stone, but it 'seems' to be softer than it is because of it's feedback. All around, it's a very lovely stone.
Remember - you have to do your part, these stones do not have an 'auto' mode.
The bottom is flat and the stone sits flat on the bench. Maybe there is a micro bit of wobble if you force it. The sides and bottom have been sealed all around with multiple layers of Cashew Lacquer. The top is lapped and the edges are chamfered.
- Mikawa Shiro Nagura
